Best Dry Dog Food

Nature's Variety Dry Dog Food, Prairie Canine Chicken Meal & Brown Rice, 30-Pound BagAs a dog lover and owner for many years, I can tell you that over time I have tried and tried again many different dog foods, brands, tricks and shticks that are out there. What have I learned? Their is an abundance of information out there.

A lot of dog owners believe that just because a particular brand or dog food is more expensive it’s better. This is simply not the case. Although quality ranks higher, it doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be more expensive. A product like Diamond Naturals Dry Dog Food is not at all the most expensive dry dog food, but it very well may be the best dry dog food on the market. Just check out the reviews . The bottom line: you don’t need to spend an arm and a leg to get the best dry dog food for your best friend. You don’t always get what you pay for.

The next question often pondered is what is dog food made of. Although the ingredients depends from manufacturer to manufacturer, be sure most meet the standards set by the AAFCO. Regardless of the exact standards appropiated from them, be sure that it covers the basics: protein, amino & fatty acids, viamins, minerals, and all other essential nutrients.

Like human food, the FDA is responsible for the bottom line. They ensure that pet foods are just as safe to eat as the food we eat.

When choosing the best dry dog food, make sure the ingredients have a balanced nutrition that you would feed yourself. Some of the best recommended dog foods are Diamond Naturals Dry Dog FoodChicken Soup for the Dog Lover, or  Canidae Dry Dog Food.

Continue to check out the rest of the site, where we review and talk about the best dry dog food. Remember, if your dog has allergies, digestion issues, or required special ingredients, keep that in mind when picking the best dry dog food for your most beloved child.

Homemade Dog Food

Real Food for Dogs: 50 Vet-Approved Recipes to Please the Canine GastronomeI remember the first time I heard about making homemade dog food. To be quite honest, when I first heard about it, I was kind of grossed out. But, after years of education and wisdom, I have come to find that homemade dog food isn’t that far off from our homemade  food. Granted, I’d rather have my house with the aroma of spaghetti sauce or Basmati Rice rather than chicken/liver homemade dog food. Anyway, enough digressing.

Homemade dog food is a huge hit among dog owners. It saves money, it’s healthier, and it’s more than likely tastier for the dog consuming the food when it comes from Mom or Dad.

If you are someone interesting in trying to cook up some good homemade dog food, or are already a seasoned pro, we were hoping to provide you with recipes and ingredients we think would be healthy and appetizing for your pet.

In our home, we always purchased natural dog food, because of what it contains. However, we don’t have to tell you how expensive it becomes purchasing natural dog food. And, we definitely don’t have to patronize you by telling you how expensive buying dog food is when your dog (and mine) is in the one hundred plus pound weight class. Although I don’t have scientific proof, nor a source to provide, it is arguably known that purchased dog food can lead to expensive vet bills because of kidney disease. Why am I tell you this? Well, kidney disease is known to be caused from processed dog food. Thus, the reason for my family (and my recommendation to you) is to either make homemade dog food, or purchase natural dog food. How much does a bag of natural dog food? On average, your looking anywhere between fifty to seventy dollars for an average thirty pound bag. Although, if you are strapped for cash, their is nothing wrong with buying a regular bag of dog food, such as Iams Adult MiniChunks. This product for instance is not only adequate, but very popular.

On a more personal note, my dog has food allergies. A couple of the food allergies he has is unfortunately common in generic dog food. Thus, this was the reason for inspiring me to write this article; we had to begin feeding him natural dog food.

After a few years of constantly purchasing natural dog food, we decided to broaden our horizons and find out if we could provide adequate dog food, and save money in the process by making homemade dog food.

Below are a couple great recipe books that I own and recommend.
